Gravel and Tar

Gravel & Tar is on again in 2020! Restrictions: 18-40 year only; riders require an elite NZ or international cycle racing licence.

The Gravel and Tar Classic is a team-based cycling race for elite NZ National and International riders. It is 140km in length and will be held in the roads of the Manawatu region encompassing both sealed and unsealed (gravel) roads, roughly 40% of which is on gravel roads. It has become known as one of the toughest cycling races on the international cycling calendar.

For the second year, Gravel and Tar La Femme is back! With five gravel sectors making up 40 km and another 90 km on the tarmac, it’s been labelled as ‘the hardest women’s race on the planet!’.

Palmerston North City Council will host the finish line event down at Memorial Park. There will be live music, awesome competitions, food trucks, bouncy castles, face painting and more. Free entry, the more the merrier, bring everyone down to this family-friendly event.
