-Identify different fruits suitable for small spaces

-Understand pollination needs of some fruit
-How to choose a healthy plant or tree and planting tips

June 25 Designing your garden for the birds and bees.
Who doesn’t enjoy a tui’s visit or a monarch’s flight across our garden Encouraging healthy ecosystems and biodiversity in your garden will not only benefit our wildlife but also your food growing. With a few tips and ideas we can help you start planning your biodiverse garden.

-Discuss the rational for encouraging biodiversity in our gardens
-Identify some plantings that will encourage birds and insects
-Discuss some safe gardening techniques that are safe for wildlife and discourage those pesky problems

Facilitators

Michael Heiler is the coordinator of Te Puna Kai o Waikato, studied horticulture and is passionate about local food growing and seed saving.

Tania Ashman in her quest to reduce waste enjoys growing food in her urban backyard, including chicken wrangling and beekeeping.
