Laughter is the same in every language, it’s like maths or smiling. But there are some jokes that just don’t land outside of a certain language. So sit with me. Tell me that joke. Tell me a story. Tell me something you’ve never had anyone laugh at before. Tell me your deepest darkest secret. I will laugh.
Laughter is powerful. People hunt for it, live for it, sweat for it. If a joke goes badly, if you’re misconstrued the energy in a room can die and the regret is hot and fast. People will say or do incredible things for a laugh. It is a bodily response that is not so easily controlled, much like crying.
This will be a durational piece over 4-hours where I sit at a table with one other chair. You can choose to sit in it and we can be together or you can view us from chairs and standing room a bit further away from the table. All are welcome, although we must bear in mind that people can say absolutely anything to me. That is part of it. This will be an amnesty event, where you will not be prosecuted for what you say, and I can't stress this enough, to me. To anyone else, that is up to their discretion as if you were walking on the street... but at the table, it is you and I.
I don't mind!
I find it funny.
