New Venue: OC Hypatia
August we debut at new venue OC Hypatia Precinct, 246 Khyber Pass Rd on the corner of Khyber Pass Rd and Huntly Ave, Newmarket. Walk straight in to room G01, on ground level. There is parking available on Huntly Ave and very close by, and Grafton train station is over the road. Our light-filled modern space is set up with a kitchen for coffee and tea and there’ll be small snacks gratis. Wine is BYO.

Guest Musician: Walter Hacon
Walter Hacon is an exceptionally talented guitarist, singer and songwriter. He performed in London bands from a young age. “We were really quite punk in our outlook and playing abilities; tons of swagger and attitude.” In 1976 Walter auditioned for up-and-coming band the Automatics. “We did our first demo recordings with Steve Lillywhite at Phonogram. A recording contract with Island Records quickly followed, and we were off.” They toured the UK and Europe, then Walter got the chance to audition for Wreckless Eric on Stiff Records. A song of Walter’s Broken Doll’ was picked up by Cliff Richard and included on “Wired For Sound’, one of the best-selling records of the decade.
Walter played in various bands, recording personal projects and albums for other artists. In the late 90’s he moved to NZ, where he’s continued to pursue music here with regular gigging and song-writing. Check out 'Bethlehem’ from Walter’s album ‘Centre of the Human Heart’ here:

Our Hosts Ockham Collective
“Ockham Residential hopes to enhance Auckland – and to contribute to its many communities.
Founded in 2009 by Mark Todd and Benjamin Preston, Ockham supports a number of organisations in arts, science and education. They fund several scholarships at the University of Auckland; sponsor Ngā Rangatahi Toa, a transformative organisation working with excluded youth; and are the lead partner of the Objectspace gallery in Ponsonby. But their principal sponsorship of the New Zealand Book Awards, a relationship now in its fifth year, is perhaps their most visible contribution.
Says Mark Todd: “Our communities would be drab, grey and much poorer places without art, without words, without science – without critical thought...”

Kia ora Ockham Collective for welcoming Inside Out to Hypatia. Read more about what they do on their official website.

Heartfelt thanks to Café One2One whose management and staff have hosted Inside Out with great care and generosity these past 7 ½ years.

Be sure to register!

Our hosts Ockham Collective use a system of direct scheduling where we log our intention to attend. (NB this is not the open mic sheet.) You can do it beforehand or on the night, but it’s very important our hosts have everyone who goes through their space accounted for. It’s very simple to do, and I‘ll update the attendance list on the night for accuracy.
