Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This workshop will run over the weekend 19 - 20 September 2020, 10am - 4pm daily.

Course fee includes all materials - just bring your lunch.

Designed for those with at least a little experience of painting, this workshop will show you how to take a painting from start to finish, focusing on how to lay out your composition and creating an atmosphere/mood for the viewer through colour and tone.

Course outline:
-Techniques and processes for starting a painting
-Thinking about composition and planning the final result
-Thumbnail studies
-First landscape (small)
-Analyse last lesson's paintings
-Stylistic techniques
-Tonality (mood)
-Second landscape (large)

Expected learning outcomes:
-Learn a clear process to take painting from beginning to end
-Block in paintings quickly and accurately
-Learn control of compositions
-Handle acrylic paint effectively

Who should attend? This course is designed for those who have some experience of painting. This course focuses more on developing existing skills, giving a bit of polish, as well as teaching helpful techniques.

What to bring: Your lunch. We'll provide tea and coffee. All materials ($60) are included within the course fee.

About Andrew Ockleston: I've been working as a portraitist for five years, as well as exhibiting my own work. After finishing my studies at animation college, I've spent the last two years tutoring adults and children in art.
