To film enthusiasts city-wide.

The Canterbury Film Society meets every Monday night (with breaks for public holidays and the International Film Festival – 6 to 23 August) at 7.30pm at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū. Our 2020 season offers 37 events, including two film festivals. We have membership prices to suit every pocket, eg a Flexi-Pass costs $30 for three films, may be shared amongst friends and has no expiry date.

New members are warmly welcome and are asked to come earlier than 7.30pm to speak to our membership team. (Downloading a membership form from our website and filling it in before you come is helpful.) Doors open at 7pm for socialising and for sales of food ($2) and drink ($2–$5). Please assist us by bringing in no outside food or drink. Thank you.

This screening is director Claire Denis' ‘Let the Sunshine In’.

Juliette Binoche lights up every frame of Claire Denis’ frank and rueful dramedy of romantic hope springing eternal, scripted in collaboration with controversial confessional novelist and playwright Christine Angot.

"Denis, whose narratives can be daringly free-associative, has structured Let the Sunshine In elegantly and intuitively, as a series of richly human encounters that flow, meander and pulse with life.” — Justin Chang, LA Times

A French production, 2017, 94 minutes, HD, R13 (sex scenes & sexual references), iIn French with English subtitles.

For more information about our 2020 programme, to view the trailer and request text or email reminders about our weekly or special events, go to our website – link above.

CFS brochures may be uplifted from the Christchurch Art Gallery, city libraries, WEA, Lumière and Alice Cinemas, and Addington Coffee Co-op.
