In Julian Rosefeldt’s MANIFESTO, Cate Blanchett performs famous art-world manifestos as monologues through 13 different characters and delivers a chameleonic tour-de-force performance.

Shot over 12 days in winter in Berlin in 2014, MANIFESTO was initially a 13-screen video installation for galleries and museums commissioned by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, before it was made into a feature film. Written and directed by acclaimed visual artist Julian Rosefeldt, MANIFESTO features Cate Blanchett playing a variety of characters whose dialogue is taken directly from famous manifestos of various political or artistic movements, such as surrealism, Pop Art, Dogme 95, or dadaism. Performing these manifestos while inhabiting 13 different personas – among them a school teacher, a puppeteer, a newsreader, a factory worker, a choreographer, a punk, a scientist and a homeless man – Cate Blanchett imbues new dramatic life into these famous words in unexpected contexts.

“Consistently engrossing” - BBC
“Compulsively watchable” - Variety
