French-Congolese singer-songwriter Mary May returns to Australia and New Zealand in March to promote her new single and video clip “That Thing”. Performing at Rogue and Vagabond with bassist Hal Strewe (Sydney/Berlin) and local musicians Age Pryor and Shaun Anderson, Mary May never fails to move her audiences with captivating vocals and a commanding stage presence.
Influenced by artists like Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, Björk and more traditional reggae, soul, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, May effortlessly mixes her eclectic influences with her Congolese roots, to create a unique and personal canvas on which to paint her stories from the perspective of an African girl born and raised in Paris.
The last three years have seen Mary May open for such artists as the king of jazz vibraphone, Roy Ayers, the singer of the mythic reggae band Groundation, Harrison Stafford, the popular French singer Naâman, and The Jamaican Legends of Israel Vibration.
Since its release, “That Thing” has received glowing reviews and has been on high rotation on French Public Radio.
