Tiritiri Matangi Island is one of Auckland’s best kept secrets. Replanted almost 40 years ago, the island is now home to many rare native birds including takahē. To celebrate Conservation Week, we offer a unique opportunity to meet our takahē close up and enjoy a short informative talk by a Department of Conservation ranger.

You can also take a guided walk through the bush, be serenaded by birdsong, admire the expansive views, search for wētāpunga/giant wētā, learn about the island’s rich conservation history, see New Zealand’s oldest working lighthouse, browse through the fascinating gift shop, sit on the beach and immerse yourself in nature.

A small additional charge applies for guided walks: Adults $10, Children $2.50. Funds raised from guided walks and shop purchases are used for conservation and education projects on the island.
Free tea and coffee is provided, but please bring your own lunch as there is no food available on the island.
