Mulled Wine Concerts presents Diedre Irons with Vesa-Matti Leppanen and Andrew Joyce.

Paekakariki-based concert organisation Mulled Wine Concerts is reaching the peak of its 2020 concert season with a popular Beethoven concert which is sure to please Kapiti music-lovers. The concert series - now in its thirteenth season - has made its name by showcasing world-class musicians in an intimate beach-side performance, and this chamber trio is made up of the best.

Diedre Irons is one of New Zealand's best-loved concert pianists. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, she made her debut with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12 and has presented concerts in 25 countries. She was awarded an MBE in 1989 and an ONZM in 2011 for services to music.

She recently played a stunning concert - the Beethoven "Pastoral" Symphony No 6 with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra which was rapturously received. A reviewer wrote "Irons’ manner was grand and expansive, obviously the fruit of her deep love of and familiarity with the music..."

The same review notes that the orchestra itself "...matched her every impulse, gesture and outpouring with sounds that rounded off the colour, variety and wholeheartedness of the music and its performance".

Two of the most important players from this performance - each a very considerable musician in their own right - will accompany Diedre Irons at the Paekakariki recital. Vesa-Matti Leppanen, Violin, is the Concertmaster (Principal Violinist) of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra - He is the person responsible for the musical organisation of the orchestra and leads it in all its performances. Andrew Joyce, Cellist, is the Section Principal of the Cello section of the NZSO and a very experienced chamber musician.

The performance will include Sonata for Cello and Piano Op. 5 No.2, Sonata for Violin and Piano Op.12 No.2 and the "Archduke" Trio, Op.31. A feast of glorious music played by arguably the best classical musicians currently in New Zealand.

No wonder concert organiser Mary Gow is advising Kapiti audiences to get their tickets early "We are expecting a very big demand for this concert", she says.
