My Brother's Keeper
Director: Laurence Topham | 21 min | 2020 | United Kingdom

“My Brother’s Keeper tells the inspiring true story of how former Guantánamo detainee, Mohamedou Ould Salahi, formed an unlikely friendship with his American guard, Steve Wood.

Mohamedou was a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay for 14 years. During his incarceration, he was subjected to torture and extreme isolation. The US government originally believed he was involved in the planning of the 9⁄11 terror attacks, but later dropped this allegation and Mohamedou was never charged with a crime.

Steve Wood was a member of the US National Guard and was deployed to Guantánamo Bay in 2004. He guarded Mohamedou in a special facility for 10 months, and during this time the pair formed an unlikely bond.

13 years after they last saw each other, Mohamedou and Steve reunite in Nouakchott, Mauritania - a city perched on the edge of the Sahara, where they rekindle a friendship that profoundly changed their lives forever.”
