THE COOL MUM
This show is a parody of a celebrity parenting seminar. Warning- Laughter. Do not try this at home. Jo Ghastly’s expertise comes from being a self- proclaimed “Cool Mum.”
Jo has created a life coaching/ personal development empire on every social media platform, including TikTok, and has books, a YouTube channel and merch. Her empire is much less successful than she thinks it is. Move over Nigel Latta, Jo Ghastly is bringing her world-class parenting seminar to Nelson to help you become the coolest of cool parents (seriously, she’s on TikTok so you know she’s got the credentials!).
Don’t have any kids of your own? Don’t worry, Jo will be teaching you how to unlock the
inner cool potential of your own parents (and maybe validate your choice to never have
children...). The show is recommended R13. Mild adult themes. Warning: Mild voluntary audience participation encouraged.

Jo is a Christchurch-based comedian, improviser and actor. Previous career highlights include being a Canterbury 3ZB cheerleader last century and being typecast on stage and screen as everyone’s bitchy mother. Comedy provides welcome relief from perimenopausal mood swings and the tortures of parenting teenagers. Jo performed in The Classic New Pro Showcase in Jan 2020. Her trio show, Transitions, was due to perform in the 2020 NZ International Comedy Festival. In 2019 she performed in and produced Old AF, which won best line-up show at the 2019 Christchurch Comedy Carnival. Jo also won the most sold out shows award with the duo show The Generation Gap as well as the Spirit of the Fringe award.
Jo placed third in the 2018 South Island RAW Comedy Competition and has been the Comedy Roast Battle champion twice. Jo also performs regularly with improvisation troupe, Impulse Theatre. She has recently performed in stage productions with NO Productions, Peppered Unicorn and Playspace Theatre. Recent screen appearances include the feature film The Stolen and TVs Adam and Eve Show.

“Fabulous… a stellar show”- Backstage Christchurch
“A quick and lively improviser” – Theatreview Dunedin Fringe
“I wish you were my mum” – Most Comedians
“I wish you weren’t my mum” – Joanna’s kids

All of the show content comes directly from the true life parenting experience of her alter ego, Joanna Prendergast.
