Watercolour has always been a fluid practice; since its popular beginnings as a field-sketching tool in the early 19th Century, watercolour has always had the exploratory nature of drawing at its core.
New Watercolour Workshop is a hands-on exploration of an ever changing tradition. Over the last fifteen years or so, watercolour has enjoyed a resurgence of interest from both young and old, and this has encouraged the development of new tools for the watercolour artist. New pigments have increased the range of colours, new binders and mediums offer new painting techniques, new fibres for making papers and brushes have expanded the important interaction between hand and surface, and new surfaces have been developed to free watercolour from the constraints of working on paper.
This hands-on workshop will explore these new materials and techniques in a fun atmosphere with plenty of assistance and art historical reference. All materials supplied.
Evan Woodruffe is well respected for his indepth technical knowledge, with over 30 years’ experience of professionally researching artists’ materials. Evan has a MFA (1st Class Honours) University of Auckland, with a proven exhibition and award history. A full biography can be found at on Evan's website.
Gordon Harris has kindly supported this workshop for Mairangi Art Centre. For more information and to book online visit the website link.
