Come to Aotearoa’s biggest free music festival and street fair, in the heart of Newtown. On Sunday 8 March 2020, the beloved Newtown Festival invites a 80,000 strong crowd to the streets of Newtown to enjoy over 150 acts and 450 stalls in celebration set in one of Wellington's most exciting and colourful communities.

Newtown Festival brings something for everybody! There are free activities for the family including street sports, balance bikes, and a ferris wheel. There is entertainment to keep you going throughout the day from dancers, paraders, buskers, circus performers, puppeteers, as well as musicians playing anything from kapahaka to indie to drum 'n' bass to singer-songwriters to experimental techno.

There are well-loved headliners as well as up-and-coming local talent. Outdoor cafes, craft beer precincts, local businesses, and stalls selling all sorts of arts, crafts, treasure, and the best range of international food to be found anywhere will complete your festival experience!

Newtown Festival presents fourteen stages across its site, dotted across Riddiford Street and side streets. Our biggest acts are coming to the Tangata Whenua Stage (hospital end of Riddiford Street) and the South Stage (zoo end of Riddiford Street). The stages in the side streets offer niche insights into the thriving local music communities, with much emerging brilliance to be discovered. Local venues Bebemos, Monterey/Newtown Social Club, Black Coffee, The Office, Baobab, Moon, continue the party into the evening.

Bring a hat, sunblock, water, reusable tupperware, cash and a good vibe!
