Some thoughtless American political commentators are suggesting that the “Trump phenomenon” is the fault of American “Boomers.”
Sir Tim Shadbolt and radio Breakfast Host Gary McCormick, are keen to put that theory to rest. Both are Kiwi “boomers” of the first order, having risen from poverty by way of communes, protests and a fabulously good time, to the heights of wealth and good fortune – given the odd lawsuit or three!
“I don’t know what the new Auckland Central MP was meaning when she used the word “boomer” in a disparaging way in Parliament,” says Sir Tim. “I thought it was a badge of honour and Gary has promised me a second Knighthood if I continue to be a good boomer. I have staged a comeback in local body politics quite often – which makes me, as the Aussies say, a boomerang!”
“I think Tim is right,” says McCormick. “ In fact, in all of the years I’ve known him, he’s never been wrong. What the country needs now is a great deal of confidence. We’ve suffered an election, COVID and the brutal and bloody slaughter of the National Party. Sir Tim and I are back on the road to lift spirits with comedy and a number of uplifting stories, designed to remind us of who we are.”
During November, the Labour Party, the Nats., the Greens and even Winston, will be meeting to determine the shape of the future.
“So will we – the People , ” says Gary. “Only our meetings will be more fun!”
