Build your skills as you create slab-built pieces decorated with patterns and designs using ceramic slips, pencils, crayons, decals and lustres. (Held at Wellington Potters' Association, 130 Grant Road, Thorndon).
You’ll make pieces with rich surface designs and patterns using slab-built construction. Slabs will be constructed in your choice of form, such as vases, platters, brooches, etc and you’ll make your own slip, ceramic pencils and crayons and apply these to your work. After the glazed work is fired, you’ll apply decals and lustre which will be fired on to the work in additional firing.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Create slabs from clay and assemble into pots, brooches etc
- Create your own ceramic pencils or crayons and coloured slips
- Apply an understanding of glazing using dipping and pouring
- Apply ceramic decals (from a limited selection or purchase your own) and ceramic lustres
All materials included in course fee. Bring an apron and wear old clothes and footwear suitable for a workshop environment.
