The Incubator

Gelli prints can be used as backgrounds for other print mediums such as lino cuts; collage work; and book making or be used alone for creating monoprints. Have fun experimenting with a new medium, beginners welcome, learn how you can print from home.

The gelli plate is very responsive and it is possible to achieve a level of detail that can be difficult with other methods. Three hands-on evenings will provide the opportunity to learn basic gelli-plate printing skills include simple stencilling and caring for your gelli plate. More advanced techniques include making image transfers; printing to fabric; and print effects such as dentritic printing.

Be prepared to go away with a collection of your own creations that will amaze your family and friends.

Tutor: Janice Giles

Most materials will be provided, including your handmade gelli-plate. However, participants are welcome to bring their own stencilling, or specialised papers.

Janice’s prefers abstract themes and works in a variety of mediums, including acrylic painting, uses several printmaking methods, and is exploring encaustic work. Janice has produced three successful solo shows, sold internationally, been a finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Awards, the Rotorua Museum Art Awards, and The Venetta Miles Awards.
