Rail Land is about more than rails. It’s about poetic and practical movement of people, and there are towns on this tour that prove great public transport can return - with the humble rubber wheel.
This year, I’m delighted to be able to bring Rail Land to the great and growing bus systems of Queenstown and Hamilton, and to the South Island’s largest system, Metro Christchurch, for a show in Lincoln. I’d love you to join me to travel to the shows, and celebrate the potential of frequent and late-evening public transport.
Finally, it’s no secret that my hometown of Ōtepoti / Dunedin has had a heartbreaking year with Rail. But what few people know outside of the city, is that the new Orbus network is more frequent, and runs for more hours than it has in decades - certainly in my lifetime.
Dunedin, and (even more so) Queenstown, are starting to match Wellington for bus service. So this year, we’re embracing the power of the bus, with a new journey on Ōtepoti’s public transport network, featuring special heritage buses and an additional, optional ferry.
