High-country Heritage Tour with Marlborough Historical Society.

This two-day Heritage Tour departs at 8am from Marlborough Museum - Brayshaw Heritage Park, on Saturday March 28th with an overnight stay in Hanmer Springs. (Own arrangements).

Join Historians Steve Bagley, John Orchard and Robin Cox, to learn about the history and Geography of these two iconic high-country stations. See High Country scenery, visit cob buildings, hear the stories and view the researched maps and photographs. We run this trip every 3 years.

You will need a reliable, high clearance 4WD or a seat in one to take part.
It is hoped that the Marlborough Historical Society Inc. can help to facilitate transport, but this is reliant on the co-operation of those with vacant seats in 4WD vehicles taking part.

The trip departs Brayshaw Park carpark at 8am on Saturday March 28th, and proceeds to Hanmer Springs via the Wairau Valley, Top House, Dip Flat, Rainbow Station, Island Pass, Lake Sedgemere, Lake Tennyson, St James Station, and Jacks Pass. Sufficient fuel is essential for all vehicles before starting this journey.

A fee of $40 per vehicle will need to be paid at the Rainbow Station Accommodation House. Booking and payment of overnight accommodation in Hanmer Springs is the responsibility of those taking part.

On Sunday March 29th, we meet in Hanmer at a designated spot and travel back to Blenheim via Acheron accommodation House, Molesworth Station, Jordan accommodation House, and the Awatere Valley.

The trip is very weather dependent. Those taking part will be contacted if road conditions or fire risk imposes a road closure.

If this trip interests you, contact Marlborough Museum on 03 5781712 between 10 and 4 daily. To confirm your participation in this trip, please pay $50 per non MHS member, and $40 per MHS member. Remember each vehicle also needs to pay $40 cash at the Rainbow Station Accommodation House. Bookings and payments are required by 14 March 2020.
