Rotoroa Island Free Guided Coastal Walk

Will you join us for a fun walk exploring the coastline of Rotoroa Island?

Our island rangers will take you off-track and around the coastline for an adventure you can’t miss! You will discover the magical flora and fauna along the way; Island Ecologist Jo Ritchie and Island Manager Glen Lucas will share with you the secrets of the island.

Suitable for: Medium fitness walkers – 8 years and older.

The walk is 3 hours from Men’s Bay to Mai Mai Bay, showing you a unique side of Rotoroa Island’s wildlife sanctuary for New Zealand’s endangered animals.

Be prepared to get wet, dirty and have heaps of fun!

You will need a packed lunch, gloves (optional: for sharp shells and rocks), closed footwear and a water bottle. The island is great for swimming so togs and towel are a must too.

Event is free, but usual ferry ticket pricing applies.

Getting here:
Fullers360 ferries depart from downtown Auckland to Rotoroa Island at 8:45am. The ferry departs from Rotoroa Island to Auckland at 5:15pm. The trip takes just over an hour, with a stop-off at Waiheke's Orapiu wharf on the way to Rotoroa Island.

What to bring:
- Your own food and plenty of water as there's a kiosk for ice blocks but no lunch shops on the island
- Walking shoes (closed), sunblock and a sun hat
- Gloves (optional: for sharp shells and rocks)
- Swimming gear and towels

Biosecurity Information:

Rotoroa Island is predator free; before you visit please:
- Check your bags thoroughly for rodents, insects (especially ants) and other pests prior to
boarding the ferry
- All bags must be sealed - plastic bags, open top bags and supermarket bags are easy for
pests to access so please leave these at home
- Carry food in sealed, rodent proof plastic containers and take your rubbish home
- Check your footwear is clean and that there is no soil or seeds in laces or treads
- Leave your bicycle at home and if you're bringing a buggy, make sure your tyre treads
aren't packed with dirt or insects
- Leave your dog on board your vessel if visiting by boat as no dogs or domestic animals are
permitted as they may endanger the island's wildlife, particularly shore birds.
