Can Do Comedy

NOTE - I am disappointed to announce that due to the COVID-19 outbreak we will be postponing this show until a late date when things are more stable. I'm working on refunding tickets, as well as looking into a future date to bring the show out to Methven when the morale level returns. My deepest apologies, and I can't wait to reschedule and bring some laughter out your way. If you haven't received a refund after a week or two, contact me at candocomedynz@gmail.com and I will chase it up.

Japan - the land of Sushi, Sumo Wrestling and… Stand-up Comedy?! Taylor Ruddle had no idea he would dive headfirst into the world of comedy when he fled his job as a pizza delivery boy by moving to Japan in 2014. Six years later, he hasn’t looked back and is enjoying every second of it. Ruddzilla is a work in progress stand-up comedy show in which Taylor shares the experiences and misadventures at home and abroad that his comedy journey has sent him on. It’s a show without a point, a lesson or a message with only one goal in mind - an hour of hysterical laughter.

The show contains a mix of storytelling, one liners, puns and double entendres. It’s not a particularly dirty show but there will be a bit of cursing and mentions of adult themes here and there. Taylor describes it as “Naughty but not filthy.” Safe to bring teens, but best leave the young ones at home.

Taylor’s comedic style has been described as “Disarmingly laid-back with a twinkle in his eye disguising a sharply honed wit.” If you like clever jokes, pop culture and laughing at someone else’s misfortune, you’ll have a great time at Ruddzilla in Methven!

If you’re still unconvinced, here’s what others have said about him:
“A natural comic.” - Ollie Horn
“Understated and hilarious.” - Fergus Aitken
“Laid-back, laconic and lusciously, ludicrously hilarious!” - Reg Blackwood

Our opening act for this show will be Matt Threadwell, another stalwart in the Christchurch comedy scene. A fellow rural child like Taylor, Matt somehow manages to masterfully dance the razors edge; being witty, charming and well informed whilst maintaining a childlike sense of wonder and imagination about the world. We are very excited to have Matt perform for us this evening.

Our venue is Arabica, Methven's coffee hotspot. Arabica also specialises in an appetising all-day menu and a comprehensive wine list to compliment you. Arabica serves delicious food served with style by internationally experienced chef. With a menu to suit all tastes, appetites and dietary requirements. The sheltered courtyard and polished floorboards give Arabica a relaxing and cosy atmosphere. Fully licensed offering a comprehensive drinks list.
