Abbey Musical Theatre's Sister Act postponed:
With the current global pandemic and the recommendation by the Ministry of Health, Abbey Musical Theatre regrettably announces the postponement of the 2020 season of Sister Act.

The Ministry of Health has advised:
"To slow the spread of COVID-19, gatherings of 500 people or more in close proximity will be cancelled. This includes festivals, fairs, sporting, religious and cultural events. This will be regularly reviewed.

The intent of the measures is to avoid non-essential gatherings which may facilitate the spread of COVID-19."

Our intentions are for the welfare of our society, our dedicated volunteers and patrons. We hope we can bring Sister Act to Palmerston North in the not too distant future, but at this time it is too much of a risk to the health of our company and community to go ahead with our season.

We ask at this time while we work through this, that you are patient and understanding as we and our ticket providers work as efficiently as we can with this additional workload.

Abbey Musical Theatre customers who purchased tickets to the 2020 season of Sister Act through TicketRocket will have the three options to choose from:
- converting tickets to FlexiTickets, which can be used for any of our future Regent productions up until the end of 2021
- donate the cost of the ticket towards the society
- a refund from point of purchase

All ticket enquiries need to be directed to the point of purchase.

We ask at this time while we work through this, that you are patient and understanding as we and our ticket providers work as efficiently as we can with this additional workload .

Kia kaha, stay safe

Sister Act is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Starring the amazing Lavina Williams as Deloris Van Cartier - Lavina Williams is a singer, songwriter and musical actress. She is the winner of the prestigious 2017 Benny Award's - “Pacific Entertainment Award for Top Female Vocalist”. Lavina started her musical journey in 2004 in the world renowned Broadway musical "The Lion King" for Australia, Germany and Singapore, playing the roles of Shenzi, Sarabi and Rafiki.

She was the principal Motormouth Maybelle in Broadway's hit musical "Hairspray" at Auckland's Sky City Theatre in 2014 and then went on to become vocal coach for the Top 13 contestants of Season 2s "The X-Factor" New Zealand. She then signed on as the musical director for New Zealand's first transgender musical “People Like Us”.

In 2017, Lavina was the musical director for New Zealand owned and written “Dominion Road - The Musical”. In 2018 and into 2019, she became the creative director, resident judge and vocal coach for the biggest talent TV show in the Pacific “Vocal Fusion - Season 6" in Papua New Guinea and is now the manager of the EMTV Vocal Fusion Franchise.

When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior.

Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Proudly produced by local theatre group Abbey Musical Theatre, Sister Act is filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story that will leave you breathless.
