You are welcome to join a friendly small group tour from Kapiti. On this tour a log cabin featuring stuffed critters is a surprise to find in Kahutara, Wairarapa!
To start the day, the Kaitoke Regional Park provides a beautiful setting for our morning tea. After a cuppa and some home-style baking, take your pick of:
- a short native bush walk via a swing bridge,
- a wander around Rivendell (Lord of the Rings film location), or
- remaining where you are to enjoy the bush and bird life.
On our way over the Remutaka Ranges we'll pause at the military memorial at the summit. Once over the hill, we'll have time to pop into a specialist shop or two before having lunch at Everest Cafe in Featherston.
In the afternoon we'll call in to see John McCosh, AKA 'Tuatara Ted', and his impressive taxidermy collection displayed in a purpose built log cabin near the Ruamahanga River.
Next we'll head to Olivo olive grove in Martinborough where we'll have an opportunity to taste and purchase olive oils from a tasting room among the olive trees. And because we're in beautiful wine-making territory we'll take a drive past boutique vineyards that are ripening for harvest.
The tour price is $105 per person which includes transport, morning tea and entry fees. Please note that lunch is an additional expense (with options from the cafe cabinet or menu).
Pick up: There are various pick up points from 9.00 a.m. in Waikanae, Paraparaumu, and Paekakariki. Drop off: at the same locations before 5.00 pm.
Accessibility: The trip is taken in a comfortable 12-seater mini-bus which is not wheel-chair accessible. Assistance is offered for mounting and dismounting the vehicle. Walking frames can be safely stowed in transit.
