Internationally-renowned New Zealand conductor Gemma New returns to lead the Orchestra in a lush concert of deeply moving music.
New life will spring forth in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ much-loved Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Considered one of the crowning glories of English orchestral music, the piece is inspired by 16th century Englishman Thomas Tallis.
Composed in 2008, Anthony Ritchie’s Piano Concerto No. 3 is a sunny and life-affirming piece and will be performed by acclaimed pianist Stephen de Pledge.
Sibelius’s spectacular Fifth Symphony, which premiered on the composer’s 50th birthday in 1915, is one of the richest symphonies of the 20th century. With its breath-taking finale, inspired by Sibelius watching a flock of swans flying overhead, the three-movement symphony has become one of the composer’s most popular works.
