Stone Carving For Beginners

Learn the basics of how to use the tools needed to craft shapes from stone.

Create and design a 3D sculpture. Covers basic carving techniques in soft stone (Oamaru stone); all the stone and carving tools supplied. Participants to arrive with an idea in mind to produce a stone sculpture over the weekend. Very small class with a max of 5 students.

All materials, safety gear and tools supplied. Bring a packed lunch any tools you wish to use, wear closed shoes.

Explore how to use tools to shape stone with award winning and experienced tutor and artist Rex O'Brien. Rex holds a Diploma in Art BOP Polytechnic, has been carving for over 18 years and been instrumental in organising and participating in carving symposiums nationwide. Your workshop will be situated outside in a courtyard behind the artery under a Gazebo.
