The Plains Railway Complex Open Day

Step back in time at The Plains Railway Complex! Enjoy a Steam Hauled Ride behind historic locomotive K88 - rides depart on the half-hour throughout the day. Stroll through the Museum Village Buildings housing hundreds of exhibits of Mid-Canterburys pioneering past - enjoy the sights and sounds of working Stationary Engines and Vintage Machinery. A must-see is the Ashburton Fire Museum, the best display in Nz of Volunteer Fire Fighting Memorabilia, Fire Engines and much more. Kids can try on a Uniform for a small charge. Take a miniature train ride with the Ashburton Steam & Model Engineers, view the Ashburton Woodworkers crafting in their Workshop, and the Lynn Museum of Woodworking. Admire the Combined Craft Ladies demonstrating a variety of Hand Crafts.

Bring a picnic and let the kids play on the Inflatables with the Popup Playground. Hot Food, Coffee, Cold Drinks and snacks available at Lorens Trailer. Additional Car Parking is available in the Domain adjacent to the site. Family Fun for all!
