Update: Waikato Museum will be closed to the public from Sunday, 22 March in step with our city's efforts to limit the transmission of COVID-19. We look forward to welcoming you back when we reopen our doors.

While our building may be closed, we'll stay in contact with you and share the inspiring stories of our Museum, its collections and people through our social media channels.

Surrealism shakes the waking world. Dreams and nightmares vault into life in surrealist art, with realities distorted through juxtaposition and contradiction.

In response to the development of Hamilton Gardens’ newest ‘fantasy’ garden, the Surrealist Garden, due to open in February 2020, Waikato Museum has curated The World is Large, Beautiful and Mostly Undiscovered, an exhibition designed around the 1920s principles of surrealism.
