Last year, punk cabaret showman Tomás Ford (Crap Music Rave Party, Chase!, Craptacular!) headed to a songwriting residency in Malaysia with his wife and son, planning to write a pretentious, Indiana Jones-inspired adventure musical.
Thankfully, he didn't write that show.
Having packed a ukulele because it was the only thing that would fit in his suitcase, he found himself writing a bunch of terrifyingly honest songs about culture shock, degenerative illness, broken brains and family bullsh*t.
He hates ukulele.
When he got home and started fleshing out arrangements on a borrowed collection of retro video game synthesisers, he discovered he'd written his best-ever songs. And that they sounded nothing like what he'd usually write.
Accompanied by three notebook's worth of stupid stories of his actual adventures, dual-screen animated projections and a broken GameBoy, this is his most personal and funny hour to date.
