Underworld is a full length film that will be livestreamed once per evening on our Tempo Dance Festival website.

Underworld (2017) takes its structure from 1978 eco-horror film, ‘Long Weekend,’ considering our connection to the physical, natural; flesh, earth, animal, death, and our complicated relationships to national identity, environment and a warming climate. Rebecca and Sarah invite you into the process of making Underworld, guiding you through a shadowy collage of dystopian futures.

Please note this work contains partial nudity and simulated violence.

Sarah Aiken & Rebecca Jensen / Deep Soulful Sweats are choreographers and performers based in Naarm / Melbourne. They have a long history of creating experimental choreography and performance in theatres, galleries, community, film, music & site responsive contexts. Their work has been described as formally reckless, slipping between codified forms and unbridled invention. Their freeform maximalist style, amasses multiple images in a torrent of references, satirical, sincere, absurd and unapologetic.

Notable works include; What Am I Supposed To Do? (WAISTD) (Take Over! Commission. Arts Centre Melbourne/Melbourne Fringe 2019. Winner Melbourne Festival Discovery Award, Greenroom Award nominated Best Production, Best Sound Design), Underworld (Melbourne Knowledge Week 2019, Supercell Festival Brisbane 2017, Darebin Arts 2017), OVERWORLD (Next Wave 2014, Dance Massive 2015). Their ongoing participatory project Deep Soulful Sweats has been presented extensively locally and internationally.
