Porirua’s Waitangi Day commemorations are back in the city’s centre for 2020 and it will be a day for the entire whānau.

Porirua City Council are partnering with mana whenua Ngāti Toa to deliver a fun-filled event, filled with music and entertainment for the entire family, one of the largest to take place in New Zealand on our national day.

There is a main entertainment stage on the park, that will be headlined by The O’Neill Twins, Modern Maori Quartet and a host of local stars.

Cultural and creative activities will be on show again, including traditional games hosted by Ngāti Toa, Capital E will be on hand once more, and there will be creation stations and Treaty of Waitangi talks at nearby Pātaka.

Waka tours are back by popular demand! There will be a clearly signposted to the harbour or shuttle trips to the water, so you can pick up a paddle and get out on Te Awarua-o-Porirua. Trips will also be offered by the Wooden Boat Association.

There will be plenty of food options to satisfy your puku, which have a zero waste kaupapa. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own reusable coffee cups and food containers.

The event is alcohol and smoke/vape-free.

Parking
This will be available on surrounding streets like Wi Neera Dr or you can park at the railway station and talk the short walk to Te Rauparaha Park.

There will be road closures on Norrie St, Lyttelton Ave from Titahi Bay Rd to the Lyttelton Ave roundabout, and Hagley St from Lyttelton Ave to the Cobham Court car park.

Cash
Not all vendors have eftpos, so best to bring cash, although there are ATMs on Lyttelton Ave.
