Interested in reducing your personal waste? Join zero-waste life-styler Stella Carruthers and learn how to reduce your daily waste output while also starting to think about wider waste issues in your community. Discover how small actions can make a big difference in the world.

Description
The news is full of stories about rubbish-filled oceans and the detrimental effects of single use plastic on the environment. ‘Waste not, Want not’ is a course that seeks to address these topical issues from a personal action point of view.

Stella Carruthers draws on her personal reading and experience as a practicing low waste life-styler and presents her findings in a workshop that covers the seven R’s of zero waste and how these can be applied in daily life. These topics are specifically focused on living low waste in an urban environment with a special topic on processing food waste.

The course also looks at how we as individuals we can create wider systemic changes to reduce waste from the top down through peaceful political action and advocacy.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Define the different levels of the zero waste pyramid and the principles of the seven R’s
- Recognise how the seven R’s of zero waste can be applied in daily living contexts.
- Discuss three different food waste management systems; composting, Bokashi and worm farms.
- Discuss issues as relates specifically to low waste living in the city.
- Recognise the value of community gardens.
- List daily actions that can be taken to reduce waste output on a personal level.
- Recognise ways to push for systemic change as it relates to waste issues.

Note: Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".
