Unfortunately, due to recent COVID 19 Level changes, this event will no longer be going ahead.
As part of Conservation Week 2020, the Department of Conservation and Aroha Island Charitable Trust are hosting a public flax weaving workshop.
After COVID-19 lockdown, many of us look at life and our world with different perspectives. Immerse yourself in nature this Conservation Week and embrace what’s always been there; look, listen, breathe and feel.
This workshop will have a focus on sustainable land use, and understanding cultural traditions whilst connecting to the land and using native materials to create a traditional Waikawa - a style of woven basket made from Harakeke.
This workshop will be best suited for young adults and adults. Check out other Conservation Week events which are family friendly for all ages at https://www.doc.govt.nz/news/events/conservation-week/events/
Spaces for this free workshop are limited due to capacity, so registrations are essential.
