Re-claiming the Indigenous Feminine Body through Sound and Dance as Ritual.
Nuhaka Collective presents it’s first full length interdisciplinary production WHAKAORA, a performance ritual offered through the integration of indigenous contemporary dance, sound and ceremony as forms of healing historical trauma and re-claiming the Indigenous Feminine Body.
Creative director and choreographer Jade Whaanga, dancer Ameteolepala Perelini-Tusitala, Taonga Puoro sound artist Alistair Fraser, visual artist Hinga Smith and lighting designer Tuhiwai Hauiti-Parapara collectively transcend time, space and re-activate ancestral ground. Together they create sacred space to awaken the divine feminine to release, re-connect and transform.
Nuhaka Collective's intention is to inspire and facilitate an empowering experience of self-connection, deepening and sharing understandings and healing through the transformative power of art and culture.
Post audience response to early development:
"Spiritually captivating" George Teiho.
"It was primal and confronting, beautiful and real, but it was also thoughtful and performed deliberate and purposeful" Richard Williams.
We invite you to join us for the premiere of our first full length production as a collaborative.
