Come and get your snorkel on at Whitireia Park! Our guides will help you explore this spectacular underwater world and learn about the amazing creatures living in the coastal waters close to Porirua. Local seaweed experts will be joining us on dry land to share their knowledge of our important underwater gardens.

New snorkelers are encouraged (must be able to swim). Wetsuits, snorkels, flippers and safety gear are provided.

Please note the minimum age is 8 years, and children below 16 must be accompanied by a snorkelling adult.

You don’t need to book just turn up and register for the next available snorkel tour. If you register to attend on the Facebook event, you’ll receive important information and updates. Otherwise you’ll need to check out the Greater Wellington Regional Council and Mountains to Sea Facebook event page on the morning of the event to find out.

What to bring: Togs, towel, sunhat, camera, warm clothes.

We look forward to seeing you there!

How to get there
No car parking at the snorkel site - the road there is narrow and can be dangerous when there's a lot of traffic. You will not be able to drive your car to the snorkelling site.

But there are free transport options available:

Buses
Titahi Bay bus stop in front of 8 Main Road – free buses will leave every 30 minutes from 9.30am-1.00pm
Porirua Train Station bus stop – free buses will leave every hour from 10.00am-1.00pm

You can also park your car in Whitireia Park at the top car park near the junction of Whitireia Road and Transmitter Street and catch one of the buses as it goes past.

Cycling
You can cycle to the site around the beautiful coastal track. Starting at Titahi Bay Boat Club, it’s 5km to the snorkel site.

This event is brought to you by Greater Wellington Regional Council and Mountains to Sea Wellington.

If you are a keen and experienced snorkeller and would like to help the Mountains to Sea Wellington team with this community event please contact volunteer@mtsw.org.nz. Volunteers are needed for this and a number of other community and school programmes over the summer.
