Who Let The Dogs Out
Director: Brent Hodge | 61 min | 2019 | Canada

“A tale steeped in showbiz, legal battles, artistic integrity and one very catchy hook.”
— Robert Daniels, That Shelf

A trip to a New York public library led 'Who Let the Dogs Out' super fan and comedian Ben Sisto to discovery an annoying partial citation in a Wikipedia entry, and from there down a rabbit hole from which he wouldn’t emerge for years to come.

This wild, roundabout story is in equal parts about the origins of the Baha Men's smash hit and the machinations of the music industry. It's a hugely entertaining tale of missed connections, forgotten groups, personal aspiration... and crushed dreams.

Sisto's premise is that everything is based on prior art, and everything is source material for future art. It's from this mantra that the dogs were let out — and he's determined to find out who did it.

Hodge's unpredictable mystery tour tracks Sisto as he delivers his popular live talks about the history of 'Dogs' — accompanied by a museum of over 250 pieces of ephemera relating to the song and its origins.

A twisted tale steeped in show business, legal battles, female empowerment, artistic integrity and one very catchy hook, Hodge's film continues his trips down some of the less-trodden highways and byways of North American popular culture.
'Dogs' follows 'A Brony Tale' (Doc Edge 2014), 'The Pistol Shrimps' (Doc Edge 2016) and TV series 'The Beetle Road Trip Sessions'.
