World's Longest Place Name Cultural Tour

Looking at the sign at the side of the road is nice, however we are offering you a rare opportunity to stand on the top of the hill known for being the longest place name in the world, where our ancestors once roamed. Our local tour guide will share stories and lineage of the great Tamatea, the ancestor at the center of the world-famous name.
Enjoy the spectacular 360-degree views of ocean, historical landmarks and the rolling hills of Porangahau.

We are offering two trips

1. The first tour group will leave the Duke Hotel at 9am and return to the hotel at 12pm for a delicious meal, lovingly put together by the wonderful Te Whanau Duke Team.

2. The second group will leave at 1pm, returning to The Duke at 4:00pm for culinary delights prepared by the wonderful Te Whanau Duke Team .

You can choose to walk or drive to the top. Seats are limited. Book your seat/space early. $70pp includes guided tour and meal.

Tours to Taumata are weather dependent. If it is wet there will be tours to other parts of Porangahau that have historical and cultural significance.
