A Bounty of Brahms
We are delighted to present an entire evening of Brahms chamber music – from the loving spirit of the E flat viola sonata, to the movement Brahms contributed as part of the collaborative “Frei Aber Einsam” (“free but lonely”) sonata, which Schumann organised as a tribute to violinist Joseph Joachim, who famously lived by that motto.
Brahms’ “Four Serious Songs” with biblical texts were completed on his last birthday as he anticipated the death of his lifelong friend Clara Schumann. This stunning evening concert will be rounded off with the sunny lyricism of the A major piano quartet with its glorious slow movement and hints of Hungarian colours.
