This month the feature gallery is devoted to a new series of work by Angela Tier.
Titled "Bittersweet Wish: Flight of the Genie Birds", the exhibition reflects on the introduction of various birds to New Zealand. Now these birds have been released into the wild, “the genie is out of the bottle” and Aotearoa is forever changed.
Tier’s meticulously sculpted genie bottles represent 17 different species of introduced birds. These extraordinary vessels are complemented by two recent photographic images.
NB: The genie shaped bottles depicted with handles in this exhibition are birds to report to our Department of Conservation if you see them in the wild!
