Arbor Day 2021 Bringing nature back to the city!
Join us for Hamilton’s biggest community planting day as we do the mahi to grow more nature in the city. We’ll be planting 18,000 native plants at Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park, the city’s 65.5 hectare flagship biodiversity project.
Waiwhakareke was established in 2004 with the long-term aim of reconstructing the natural forest, wetland and lake ecosystems present in pre-European times. Intensive predator control will allow vulnerable species to flourish in an urban environment and spill over to other parts of the city.
Find out more about this amazing, ambitious ecological restoration project at https://www.hamilton.govt.nz/our-city/parks/parksandgardens/waiwhakareke/Pages/default.aspx.
Please bring:
• A planting spade.
• Covered footwear, gumboots are best as it will be wet and muddy, we are planting in a wetland!
• A raincoat, just in case! We’ll be there rain or shine.
• A filled bottle of water.
• Lots of energy!
Parking for the planting is off Rotokauri Road (the Brymer Road entrance opposite the Zoo is not available this year due to construction).
