Regretfully, while Wellington will be at Covid Level 2 for this concert, the new rules restrict audiences to 50 with 2 metre spacing. Our audiences have been triple that number so we are unable to present the concert. We did try to defer the concert to a later date, but this was not possible as one of the artists has to return overseas.
The Argyle Trio is the most recent group formed by violinist Wilma Smith and introduces us to NZ cellist Mathias Balzat, who is currently studying in Düsseldorf and award-winning Australian pianist Laurence Matheson. Their programme celebrates three established masterpieces.
Due to Covid restrictions, the pianist is unable to travel from Australia. We are fortunate that Michael Houstoun has been able to step in as a replacement. The programme has also needed to be changed with Beethoven trios replacing Saint Saens and Brahms.
