Bernard - Divertissement for Double Wind Quintet
Stravinsky - Octet
The APO’s wind and brass musicians shine in a fascinating French programme. Stravinsky qualifies by having written his sprightly Octet while living in Biarritz, France. Dukas’ La Péri is the archetypal fanfare. Rameau is perhaps the most suave Baroque composer ever, and the tradition of Gallic musical wit is epitomised in Poulenc’s jolly Suite française and Bernard’s Divertissement.
