In this introduction to the cast glass process we will be working on a very small scale, making detailed forms inspired by microscopic life and structures found in nature. Immerse yourself in science and glass art.

3 Days - Sat 19 | Sun 20 | Sat 26 June
Day 1: Wax model making 9.30 - 4
Day 2: Refractory mould making, steaming & glass selection 9.30 - 4
Day 3: Glass reveal & finishing techniques 9.30 - 2

Day 1:
We will be learning to sculpt, carve and join waxes, this workshop is an opportunity to explore and create by being process led. Making structures by altering waxes made from found objects (supplied by tutor Lisa) as well as free hand sculpting. These wax model forms will become your glass object.

Day 2:
You will learn to make a layered refractory mould of your wax model, then steam out the wax from the mould. The moulds will go into the kiln during the week to fire the glass.

Day 3:
Return the following week after the kiln firing to reveal your glass from the mould and learn some simple finishing techniques.

You will take home a small unique glass sculpture.
