Cobblestones Museum is delighted to host the finale of the Tweed Ride on Saturday 3 April.
While we wait for our Tweeded Riders to complete the course we’ve got heaps of jolly good fun planned for the supporters and spectators from 1 pm. In keeping with our vintage theme, you’ll be able to indulge in a delicious traditional afternoon tea. There will be an Easter Egg hunt, sponsored by Schoc Chocolate, for the smaller spectators as well as lots of old-fashioned games to keep everyone busy while we wait for the Tweed Riders to roll in. After we’ve given our intrepid tweeded friends rousing cheers and waved flags to celebrate their achievements you will be able to dance the afternoon away at the Tweed Ride Tea Dance in the beautiful Cobblestones’ gardens.
What’s a tea dance? Tea dances are a casual dance held in the later afternoon. In Victorian times It was a way for people to meet each other in a romantic setting without the dangers of darkness! Tea dances became fashionable again in the 1920s and 30s with the introduction of jazz and gin cocktails
At our thirties style Tweed Ride Tea Dance the Gypsy Jam jazz trio will play lively tea dance music and our bar will be open to serve wine, beer, and yummy gin concoctions.
So dress in your best Tea Dance outfit (or just come along in your tweeds) and dance the afternoon away! You’ll be able to buy Cobblestones’ delicious food as well as a sausage sizzle. Some delicious French wines from Down to Find wines will be available as well local Wairarapa wines and Wairarapa distilled gin. Please bring cash for the bar and the food.
