Get creative this School Holiday!

Join The New Zealand Portrait Gallery in collaboration with Inverlochy Art School for a fun day full of portraiture, collage and creating!

Beginning at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery, you will be given a private tour of the latest exhibition, the Inaugural Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award, delving into the creation of the award, the shared mahi of the Portrait Gallery and Kiingitanga, as well as the amazing mahi toi of the 2021 Finalists. You will then have the opportunity to get creative yourselves, working on a creative warm up in the Gallery space, before heading off to Inverlochy at 12pm (with a weather dependent option of stopping off at some of the sculpture trail along the waterfront on the way to Inverlochy).

Following an hour lunch, you will then be able to be part of a two hour workshop focused on collage, incorporating paper weaving and portraiture, in response to some of the mahi toi of the Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award.

Open to audiences 8+ (when accompanied by an adult 16+), this is a great opportunity to learn more about portraiture, contemporary art, and get creative yourselves!

Please bring along digital or physical copies of a self portrait, and images of your family and/or ancestors, as well as a packed lunch!

The walk to Inverlochy Art School from the New Zealand Portrait Gallery is around 20 minutes, so please bring weather appropriate gear. If you have any mobility needs, please do also let us know.
