Class Size: Limited to 8 people.

Welcome to Burlesque!

You will learn about the rich history of this wonderful art form. Who we are and why we are here.

To get you going on your way we will explore posture, posing, walking in heels and begin the discussion about the art of tease.

The striptease technique we focus on in this course is glove and stocking peels.

Costume pieces that are needed for this course are:

Gloves (Va-Va-Voom Academy can provide)

Stockings (stay-ups or non-stay ups with suspender belt)

Note: No Nudity is involved in this course.

About the Corps de Burlesque Syllabus:

Burlesque performers and professionally trained dancers and teachers Trillian and Dahlia Dangerous (founders of Corps de Burlesque) have developed an official licensed burlesque syllabus with funding from CreativeNZ and support from DANZ.

This syllabus has been created with a view to set a standard of burlesque education in New Zealand. It will encourage better collaboration between educators, improve teaching methods and provide a solid and realistic framework for learning about this wonderful art form. All of these things will then further contribute to producing a high calibre of performer, be they amateur or professional.

The syllabus consists of a 6 level curriculum, each level focusing on history and fundamental aspects of burlesque. Va-Va-Voom Academy will be offering 2 of the 6 levels of curriculum for 2021, expanding in levels as the academy flourishes.

The levels that will be available through Va-Va-Voom Academy for 2021 will be:

Emerald Garter (available from February 2021): This is the compulsory entry level course featuring basic deportment, glove and stocking play.

Sapphire Garter (available from May 2021): Features bump 'n' grind technique, bra and corset play.

Va-Va-Voom Academy is directed and taught by Lilly Loca, one of New Zealand’s prolific burlesque and drag personas. Crowned Supreme Grand Tease 2017, as well as holding many other awards and accolades under her sparkly suspender belt, she’s best known for being a consummate mistress of disguise.

Lilly is a qualified teacher of drama, as well as the Auckland licensee of the officially licensed Corps de Burlesque Syllabus, which has been created with a view to set a standard of burlesque education in New Zealand. Click here for more information on the syllabus.
