Meet us on 25 July, to learn more. All welcome.

In 1979, an Air New Zealand flight to Antarctica crashed into Mt Erebus, with 257 passengers and crew losing their lives. It remains this country’s worst air disaster.

In 2019, the Prime Minister agreed there should be a national memorial to recognise those who lost their lives and those who aided in the recovery of the bodies.

The site currently set aside in Parnell for the memorial has been dogged by controversy. Many families of the victims oppose it strongly.

Recently, MOTAT officials have indicated they are open to considering proposals for an Erebus Memorial Park to be sited adjacent to the museum, which houses the nation’s most significant showcase of Aotearoa’s aviation history.

The Erebus Park Working Group would like to share its proposal with you. Join us on Sunday 25 July to see why this is the most fitting place for a national memorial to remember those who died in the tragedy.
