Melissa Boardman’s exhibition Drawn to Zealandia is an illustrated tribute to the birds she encounters during her time spent in the Zealandia forest. Melissa draws on her favourite experiences with native birds to create a range of works that showcase our native birds unique characteristics and personalities.

Melissa is a regular visitor to Zealandia, and has been a member for over a decade and during that time has spent countless hours in the sanctuary. She loves spending time in the company of native birds, gathering inspiration for her work and also for the pure joy of being in nature. Melissa has been a Zealandia volunteer since 2019, helping the Zealandia team to monitor the local titipounamu (rifleman) population in the sanctuary and beyond.

Drawn to Zealandia features a mix of original gouache illustrations as well as a new range of framed art prints.

The exhibition runs until the end of November, with new work being added throughout the duration. Alongside her exhibition you can find a range of Melissa’s native bird themed products in the Zealandia Store.
