Join me at my rural studio in Ararimu, near Pukekohe, where you will find everything that you need to design your own unique wet felted abstract artwork using a selection of New Zealand Merino and silk fibres, hand-dyed in a vast array of colours by my favourite boutique dyers. We will explore the use of prefelts and my range of hand-dyed luxury fibres to create surface design and texture.
I have a passion for exploring both the seen and the unseen depths of the landscape beneath our feet. I am excited to share this exploration with you as we look to images and memories of landscapes and rock formations for our inspiration. You will be invited to bring images with you, or to browse up the selection of material that I have prepared to spark up your creative imagination.
I will lead you step-by-step through the process from my centrally located demonstration table.
Planning your abstract artwork and taking inspiration from the images that we share.
Discussion of colour choices and composition.
I will share with you some of my favourite techniques for achieving surface texture: prefelts, silk fibres and wool locks, and help you to incorporate these techniques and materials into your artwork.
Once you have the basics, you will be able to let your imagination run wild! The beauty of abstract art is that there is no right of wrong - simply a creative journey where we allow ourselves to be free to follow the twists and turns that our creative thoughts take!
