Join us at Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House on Sunday afternoons at 2.30pm for a Fireside Lecture Series: 25 July - 22 August 2021.

Maria Gill joins the armchair to reveal why she wrote Kate Sheppard: Leading the way for women, what her influenced her writing, and discuss why these type of books are important.

Maria is known for her vibrant, child-centred, readable children’s nonfiction books. Over the last 20 years, Maria has written 60 children’s books and in 2020 received the Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal for services to children’s literature. Her book ‘Anzac Heroes’ won the Supreme Book of the Year prize in 2016, and another 10 books are Storylines Notable Books. For more information go to her website.
