Forum 2

Forum 2 is a festival that celebrates graffiti writing as an evolving, legitimate, and thriving art form. Taking place in the Auckland suburb of Avondale, Forum 2 showcases New Zealand’s top and most talented writers for a weekend of painting.

Avondale is home to one of Auckland’s significant sites for graffiti and street art. Tucked away below street level on Great North Road is an empty lot that formerly housed a supermarket known as 3 Guys. The lot has been empty since 1998 but has become a legal wall for artists to paint. Most weeks you’ll find graffiti writers painting away on the wall and expressing themselves through the visual language of graffiti. The wall itself has served as a fresh canvas for emerging and established talent who come from all over New Zealand and overseas. Event curator Berst says that “Avondale is one of the very few places in Auckland where people can paint graffiti art legally so it's critical we maintain it. Having a place like Avondale Art Park helps to increase the access of public art to the community and gives a voice to some of the younger generations who want to express themselves creatively ". The first Forum event originated in 2017 and since then, the graffiti scene has many new writers and expanded its audience. Event proudly supported by Eke Panuku Development Auckland.

- 4th November (Thursday AM) from 10am-5pm. Live painting at 73 Merivale Avenue, Epsom.
- 5th November (Friday AM) from 10am-5pm. Live painting at Avondale Art Park.
- 6th November (Saturday AM) from 10am-5pm. Live painting at Avondale Jockey Club along Ash Street.
- 7th November (Sunday AM) from 10am-5pm. Avondale Pavilion live painting at Avondale Art Park by Nense.
